This month in science: Training the next generation of high-energy physicists, targeting 'undruggable' diseases, three UC Santa Cruz faculty win prestigious NSF CAREER awards, and more...
SANTA CRUZ INSTITUTE FOR PARTICLE PHYSICS, UCSC SCIENCE
The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) at UC Santa Cruz is leading a consortium of western research universities and national laboratories in a new program to train the next generation of computational high-energy physicists.
UC Santa Cruz launched the Global and Community Health program last year due to high demand, and it has proven to be popular amongst incoming fall applicants. The interdisciplinary program offers two undergraduate degrees that aim to improve health and reduce health inequalities both locally and globally.
At 7pm on March 4th at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in downtown Santa Cruz, UC Santa Cruz graduate students will each deliver a three minute presentation in which they explain their graduate research or artistic endeavor to a general audience. Winners will move onto the UC system-wide finale event. Join the audience! Doors open at 6:30pm and seats are filled on a first-come first-serve basis. A live-stream will also be available during the event.
